Over three thousand fans of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship returned to Oulton Park today (Wednesday), as spectators were welcomed back to watch trackside for the first time since the 2019 season finale – 577 days ago.
In glorious conditions in Cheshire, fans had their first taste of 2021 Bennetts BSB ahead of the Championship’s 25th Anniversary season, which kicks off with the season opener next month (June 25/26/27).
As spectators retuned to the venue some of the stars of the show headed to the Main Gate earlier this morning to show their appreciation for the continued support of the fans during the past year. Riders including reigning champion Josh Brookes and last year’s runner-up Jason O’Halloran were on hand to meet visitors as they arrived into the circuit.
The Bennetts BSB on track spectacle ended with the top 13 riders covered by just 0.839s, with six different manufacturers featuring in the top seven, showing how close the battle will be for the 2021 crown when the racing gets underway next month.
Bennetts British Superbike Championship Series Director Stuart Higgs commented: “Today has been a momentous day for the Championship and it has been fantastic to see fans back trackside for the first time since October 2019. The support the Championship has received from the fans throughout the past year has been incredible and I want to send my sincere thanks to you all.
“We next look forward to welcoming fans to Donington Park for the final Official Test on June 8, because we have seen today that the Championship is going to be incredibly close this season and with the added atmosphere that you bring to the venues, it will make this 25th anniversary year one to remember."
