Scott Redding doubled up on British Superbike Championship race wins at the TT Circuit Assen for the Hager PBM Racing Team in a dramatic second race. His title rivals Bradley Ray and Kyle Ryde completed the podium when the race was red flagged for rain with two laps remaining.
There was drama before the race started when Rory Skinner had an oil cooler pipe failure on the Cheshire Mouldings Yamaha, crashing out and the huge technical issue meant the start was delayed for a clean-up operation.
Leon Haslam then was forced to pit the Moto Rapido Racing Ducati on the warm up lap after he was shown the black/orange flag and he was unable to take the start.
Redding instantly hit the front of the pack at the start ahead of Ryan Vickers, Ray and Ryde, but the defending champion was instantly fighting and he made a move on both his rivals on the opening lap.
Redding was again holding off his closest championship rivals, but on lap seven, Ryde was cautious of a change of conditions and Ray seized the advantage to take second. Light rain then began and the race was subsequently red flagged, with Redding, Ray and Ryde claiming the podium positions.
Vickers had another strong race in fourth place for Honda Racing UK with Max Cook completing the top five on the AJN Steelstock bimota.
Ilya Mikhalchik claimed a season best finish in sixth place for the ROKiT BMW Motorrad British Superbike Race team, holding off Jason O'Halloran and Glenn Irwin, Lee Jackson finished ninth on the leading DAO Racing Honda. Meanwhile Andrew Irwin marked his return to action with a top ten finish for the MET fonaCAB Racing team.
