Christian Iddon and the Sencat Racing Yamaha team scored their first top five finish of the ZYN British Superbike Championship season at Donington Park, before a crash in the final race ended a positive weekend of progress.
Iddon qualified on the fourth row of the grid and in race one, was fighting for fourth place, with a race-long battle before claiming fifth place at the chequered flag, the team’s best result of the season so far. Race two proved more challenging after Iddon struggled with tyre wear, but was able to score a seventh place.
In the final race of the day after another strong start, a small mistake whilst running fifth dropped Iddon down the pack. After the BMW Safety Car period, the race resumed and the fight continued, but Iddon collided with Lee Jackson ending both their races.
Iddon said: "It's been a great weekend overall and although at first I was perhaps a little disappointed with the results, on reflection it's quite amazing how far we have come and how much we have improved in just a few short weeks.
"From the first lap of practice, I felt comfortable on the bike and that really allowed me to think more whilst on track and to be able to work better with my team. We really did not want to change too many things because we had a good base, so the team only made incremental changes whilst I continue to adapt to the riding style of this bike.
"The fifth in the first race was great but then I struggled in race two due to excessive tyre wear. In the final race, I genuinely felt the best I had all weekend, but I made an error and from there I started going backwards. It all happened very quickly, but in a few short laps I went from being near the front to being on the floor so obviously it's not the way I wanted to finish the weekend.
“But regardless, it was still a really positive weekend overall and I cannot wait to get to round three and try to keep moving forwards."
