Zak Shelton brought the flag down on Alfie Davidson’s winning streak this morning, as the XMT Racing rider took the Sportbike win in a photo finish.
Polesitter Carl Harris took the lead at the start but was unable to hold off Davidson and Shelton who both found their way into the top two spots on Lap Five. Adon Davie also came into play on Lap Six, moving up to second ahead of Shelton but Shelton was soon back ahead and challenging for the lead.
He hit the front on Lap Eight and it became a two-man battle between him and Davidson, the pair swapping positions in the closing laps before a final lap showdown. Shelton led over the line at the start of the last lap but Davidson was soon back ahead – however, Shelton was determined to win and made a move at the Loop.
Davidson tried to hold the spot but Shelton stuck his nose up the inside into Goddards, resulting in a drag race to the finish line. Shelton got it by 0.010s from Davidson with Harley McCabe third, Adon Davie fourth and Cameron Dawson fifth.
