Glenn Irwin and the Nitrous Coin Nitrous Competitions Racing team are ready to fight back after a challenging season opener of the ZYN British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park, following an array of teething issues with their new Ducati V4 R.
Irwin had a tough start to free practice and started ROKiT Oxygen Performance Qualifying 1, but a crash meant he would start the opening race of the season from 24th on the grid and carving his way through to 12th at the finish.
Further issues compounded an even more difficult race two, when he was forced to retire from the race, however together with the team they overcame the issues and fought back strongly in the final race to move from a row four start in tenth place, through to fifth and matching the pace of the lead group.
Irwin said: “It was incredible to end up where we did at the end of Oulton Park. It was a reflection of a lot of hard work with the team and a testament to their resilience to overcome so much adversity and honestly, I have never experienced that in my entire career. And not over just once weekend, over a prolonged period of time so it was unbelievable what they had thrown at them on top of the bikes arriving late and there was already long days - my guys deserved a few beers!
“BSB is my main goal as everyone knows and to do what we had done and to end race three back at the sharp end as such, bodes so well for the next round and the remainder of the season. I think we start now!”
