Barry Burrell took control of the BMW F 900 R Cup action this afternoon as he stormed to the win by more than eight seconds over points leader Nikki Coates.
Burrell, back for a wildcard entry this weekend aboard the Halliwell Jones machine which powered him to title glory last season, left his rivals trailing in his wake as he crossed the line 8.419secs clear.
From pole, Burrell shot off the line and into the lead and from there, was never challenged. Behind, there was a race-long scrap for the remaining podium positions as Josh Corner battled with Kieran Smith in the early stages.
Coates, who was slow off the line, took a few laps to get dialled in but by Lap Three was back to his usual best, flying through to third and then passing Corner for second.
Corner and Coates then swapped places several times over the remaining laps in a battle which went down to the final lap, as Coates passed the 97 machine of Corner one more time and Corner was unable to get back ahead.
Burrell celebrated victory as Coates was second and Corner third, with Smith twins Christian and Kieran fourth and fifth respectively.
However, Coates was later disqualified on a technical issue, promoting Corner to second, Christian to third, Kieran to fourth and Bobby Varey to fifth.
