Nikki Coates saved his best until last in this evening’s qualifying session to deny Kenny Macleod pole position.
Macleod had led most of the session but Coates had something left in the tank, storming to a 56.981sec lap just seconds before the chequered flag to steal the top spot by 0.138s.
Christian Smith was third, as free practice leader Barry Burrell ended the day fourth and Kieron Smith rounded out the top five.
It means Coates will start from pole in Heat One tomorrow, while Macleod will get his chance to head the grid in Heat Two.
