Joe Sheldon-Shaw will be making a return to the ZYN British Superbike Championship grid this weekend at Oulton Park as he deputises for Luke Hedger in the Whitecliffe CDH Racing Honda team.
Hedger had been showing some strong form with the team, but following an injury at work on Wednesday, he has been ruled out of the action as he begins his rehabilitation. Sheldon-Shaw steps in to replace him at Oulton Park this weekend, with previous experience in BSB and also in both the Quattro Group British Supersport and Pirelli National Superstock Championships.
Hedger said: “I had a freak accident at work and my injuries are significant, but manageable and it sucks to be missing Oulton Park this weekend. I want to send massive apologies to my team, sponsors, and supporters. Hopefully, I will be out of hospital in the next couple of days and I can start my recovery to be back as soon as possible. I am super gutted to miss this weekend, especially as Oulton is one of our best tracks, but we will come back stronger, it takes a lot to keep me down.”
Sheldon-Shaw said: “I am obviously really excited to be back riding with the Whitecliffe CDH Racing Honda team, we did really well when we last raced together, and scored the team their first championship points. It has been a while since I rode a Superbike but we will do our best and it’s great to be back in the paddock this weekend. I am excited for the opportunity and I hope that Luke gets well soon.”
Team Owner Dean Hipwell commented: “We are obviously all gutted for Luke as we have been building on our results again this season, so to be out at this point of the season is disappointing for all of us. Everyone at Whitecliffe CDH Racing Honda support Luke and wish him all the best for his recovery. We also welcome Joe back into the team this weekend following a last minute call up and hope that we can have another weekend of progress at Oulton Park.”
