Bobby Varey and Barry Burrell took a Heat win each this evening, ahead of tomorrow’s Main Race.
Nikki Coates started Heat One from pole, hitting the front at the green light but Varey was right behind, passing him for the lead in the opening lap.
From there, he took control of the race as Coates and Josh Corner found themselves in a battle early on, the pair swapping positions over the opening laps until Coates finally got ahead and managed to pull a bit of a gap to Corner as he set off after Varey.
On the last lap, he was right with Varey and was looking for a way through – but Varey was able to defend the spot to take the win by just 0.029secs.
Corner was third with James Ellison fourth and Dale Thomas fifth.
Burrell started from pole in Heat Two and immediately got out in front – and while he enjoyed a relatively quiet run to the flag, behind was anything but calm.
Wildcard Bjorn Estment spent the whole race fighting with Smith twins Christian and Kieran. The latter had moved up to second on the opening lap but by Lap Three, Estment was running P2 with Christian third ahead of his brother.
Christian passed Estment for P2 on Lap Five as Burrell stretched his lead and looked like he had second in the bag, as he seemed to have the better of the South African.
But it all changed on the final lap as Estment dived into second. Moments later Kieran passed his brother for third and then stormed past Estment to cross the line second.
Christian was third, just 0.055 secs behind as Estment took fourth ahead of Harley Prebble in fifth.
