Marley Mackenzie beat Luca Hopkins over the line by just 0.028secs in today’s opening Junior Sportbike race.
And for points leader Mackenzie, it followed a difficult start to this afternoon’s 10-lap battle.
From pole, Mackenzie got a bad start and dropped back to seventh as Laken Payne took the lead on the opening lap, leading until Lap Three when Mason Johnson moved to the front.
Behind, Mackenzie had wasted little time in making amends for his bad start and by the end of the fourth lap had found his way back to the front.
Despite leading for the remainder of the race, it was far from an easy ride as Hopkins kept him honest, closing right in on the final lap but couldn’t find a way past.
Mackenzie won by 0.028secs from Hopkins with Ben Jolliffe third, Payne fourth and Johnson fifth.
