The Moto Rapido Racing team are gearing up for their home round of the ZYN British Superbike Championship next weekend (August 14/15/16) at Thruxton, hoping to build on their podium finish last time out at Oulton Park.
Haslam claimed a third place in the opening race last time out before he crashed out of the fight for the podium in race two before claiming a fifth place to arrive at the Hampshire circuit holding fourth in the overall standings.
Haslam said: “For me, Oulton Park was a tough weekend really. I actually genuinely felt we had pace to challenge for wins, and in race one we were in the battle until the last lap, and I made a little mistake. In the sprint race, we had a problem with the bike, I lost the front several times with the issue that and then the Safety Car helped me get up to fourth, then I pushed it too much and made a mistake and crashed out of fourth place.
“In the last race, I got a very bad start and managed to catch up the leading group, and then in the last seven laps we had another small issue and I was struggling to get the bike to stop, with something on the electronics.
“It was frustrating as I felt the bike, the set-up and everything, we had the pace to go with the boys and we only came away with a third and a fifth, so not what we wanted out of that weekend but I was happy enough.
“Thruxton for me is a completely different circuit; last year we had a very good game plan and I think we were the top Ducati but it is all about saving the tyre and you try to save it to go fast at the end. Thruxton it is mainly about strategy and riding smooth which is probably not my best forte, but that is the game plan for Thruxton!”
