Vickers: “We haven’t quite cracked that podium yet but we are getting closer”

Ryan Vickers has been firing in strong results for Honda Racing UK on his return to the ZYN British Superbike Championship this season, and now is eager to get to Thruxton this wweekend for what he regards as one of the highlights on the calendar.

Vickers has been edging closer to the podium over the first half of the season, as the team continue to make solid progression. Now coming to a circuit that has been a strong track in the past, Vickers is hopeful that he can be in the mix and challenging for a top three finish this weekend.

Vickers said: “I was really happy with Oulton Park; going there for the second time this year, we were able to have a direct comparison to the first round and actually see how much progression we have made with the bike – not only on lap time but also results.

“I was really happy, especially with Sunday to get two P4s around there was really strong. We haven’t quite cracked that podium yet but we have been beating people like Leon, who had been on the podium at the first round and then in the first race at the last one. We are getting closer and we just need to try to put it all together now.

“I am looking forward to getting to Thruxton; it is one of my favourite circuits on the calendar and always has been. I have had some amazing results there, some great times on the Yamaha and I look forward to getting back there as I missed it last year – and one of the tracks I enjoy.

“The Honda seems to have had some strong years there, it has been one of the stronger competitors to us in the past so I am looking forward to it. Hopefully we can make some steps with the bike again and if we can do that, then let’s see if we can try and push for our first podium of the year!”
