Andrew Irwin and the MET fonaCAB Racing team had a positive debut in the ZYN British Superbike Championship at the R&G Official Test at Donington Park, ending their opening appearance seventh overall on combined times.
Irwin was just 0.472s adrift of the pace-setting lap as the opening test concluded, instantly getting a positive feeling on his return to Ducati, the manufacturer he made his BSB debut with in 2018. The team utilised the test to work together for the first time, after their official unveiling earlier last week.
Irwin said: “Donington Park was the first test for the whole MET fonaCAB Racing team, the first time we have all worked together; it was a great opportunity to all work together and understand how we all worked over the two days.
“We got faster and faster and closer and closer to the front throughout the test, and ended seventh. I think at Oulton Park we can continue to make really good progress and try and set ourselves as best as possible at the final test before round one.
“To be back on a Ducati again was a really nice feeling; getting on the bike felt like when I first got on it in 2018; the V4 feels really similar to that and it put a smile on my face.”
