Mar-Train announce departure from racing at the end of the season

02 September 2025

Mar-Train Racing will step down from their position as a front-running team in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at the end of the 2025 season. After 20 years racing at the highest National level, Tim and Sonya Martin have made the decision to step away from racing.

Mar-Train Racing’s journey has been defined by a rise to success, beginning with their Irish Supersport Championship victory in 2008 - just their second year in competition. Their move onto the British stage in 2012 proved equally impactful. With Jack Kennedy, Mar-Train Racing stormed to victory in their debut outing at Brands Hatch and ended the season as National Supersport 600 runners-up. A year later, Stuart Easton delivered the team’s first British title, securing the 2013 British Supersport Championship.

After a brief hiatus, Mar-Train Racing returned to the paddock, supporting rising stars and rekindling old partnerships. Their full comeback came in 2022, when Jack Kennedy powered the team to a dominant British Supersport Championship title. With the crown secured two rounds early, the team made a seamless transition into the British Superbike Championship.

The team’s first year contesting the Bennetts British Superbike Championship in 2023 came with a best race finish of fourth, and an overall championship finish of tenth with Kennedy.

Mar-Train Racing attracted the title sponsorship of McAMS for 2024, with former Moto3 World Champion, Danny Kent. Their 2024 efforts were capped off in style, finishing fourth in the standings in only their second season in the premier class. Kent and the team stormed to a debut victory in the Bennetts BSB series during the final round of the season at Brands Hatch.

The team’s success continued into 2025 with race winner, Kent, the team have tallied up a further two race wins and three further podium finishes, cementing themselves towards the front of the standings as the end of the year approaches.

Currently sat in fourth in the 2025 Bennetts BSB standings and only ten points from the top three, the focus remains fixed on fighting at the top, with the aim of securing additional victories and podium finishes.

Team Owner Tim Martin commented: “Announcing the end of our journey has not been an easy decision, but it feels like the right time for Sonya and me to step away after an incredible ride. From our first title in Ireland to winning on the British stage and taking on the roads with Yamaha, this has been a story filled with unforgettable moments, proud achievements, and friendships that will last a lifetime.

“None of it would have been possible without the dedication of our riders, the hard work of our crew, and above all, the unwavering support of our partners and sponsors, who stood shoulder to shoulder with us at every step. Their belief in our vision helped us achieve things we could only have dreamed of when we started out. As we prepare for the remainder of the season, our focus is on finishing on a high and celebrating what we’ve built together. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey, especially to McAMS for their unwavering support over the past two years- you’ve made it truly special.”

Team Owner Sonya Martin added: “Closing this chapter hasn’t been an easy choice, but it feels like the right moment to step away after such a remarkable journey. From lifting our first title in Ireland to making our mark on the British stage, the path has been filled with milestones we’re proud of, memories we’ll never forget, and friendships that will always mean so much.

“What we achieved was only possible because of the talent and commitment of our riders, the tireless effort of the team behind the scenes, and the backing of our partners and sponsors, whose faith in us turned ambition into reality. To everyone who has walked this road with us - thank you. You’ve made this adventure something truly special.”
