Bradley Ray marked the Bennetts British Superbike Championship return to the TT Circuit Assen by topping the opening Free Practice session for Raceways Yamaha, claiming the top spot from Scott Redding in the final five minutes by 0.326s.
Redding had led the way for Hager PBM Ducati for the majority of the session before Ray claimed the leading position as he set his sights on closing down Kyle Ryde’s 28-point advantage in the standings this weekend.
Tommy Bridewell was third fastest for Honda Racing UK, the sole rider for this weekend heading off Danny Kent, who bounced back from his Donington Park crash for McAMS Racing Yamaha and Leon Haslam completed the top five.
Championship leader Ryde was sixth fastest from Josh Brookes and Glenn Irwin, fresh from announcing he is remaining with Nitrous Competitions Racing next season. Rory Skinner and Charlie Nesbitt completed the top ten.
