This weekend’s Snetterton round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship marks a significant event for the AJN Steelstock Kawasaki team as Christian Iddon and Max Cook look to target success at their title partner’s home round.
Debuting a special edition livery for the three races, the team-mates are aiming to edge closer to the front in this weekend’s third round, building on the experiences from the opening races of the season to close the gap to their rivals.
Iddon said: “I am really looking forward to Snetterton because it’s our title sponsor AJN Steelstock’s home round, so that’s super cool and we have our special livery so I’m excited about that.
“We’ve got some really good ideas for the bike. I feel really comfortable on the bike and I’m really enjoying riding the Kawasaki and the team have been absolutely fantastic. Genuinely I’m having a great time working with the team and everyone is pulling together really well, but it’s not quite so far generated the results I would expect of myself, and I’d really like to close the gap to the front guys.
“Snetterton has been a good track for me in the past. I’ve had a win there and quite a few podiums. So I like the circuit, and I’m looking forward to trying these new ideas. It’s not new parts, it’s settings that we’re going to try that are a little bit experimental. We’re at the stage where we really want to try something and bridge that gap. The plan is potentially to forego a few sessions and understand that the pace might not be there from the get go, but to look at the long game.”
Cook added: “So far this year has been quite good to be fair and it’s been my third year on the Kawasaki. It feels like my bike, and I hit the ground running straight away with testing. I’ve really improved my qualifying which is amazing and I know the speed of the bike is good and I qualified fourth at Oulton which was amazing.
“The main thing is that all the potential is there and so we just need to piece it together through the rest of the year. Luckily, we still have a long year and we’ve only had two rounds. So far though it’s going really good. There is a few areas, which we know could be a little better and then be able to push the limit a little further. But so far I’m really happy with my team and we’re in a really good place, so everything is going really well.”
