The ‘Comeback kid’: Redding wins as Ray dramatically crashes out of race two

27 July 2025

The ‘Comeback Kid’ Scott Redding claimed his first Bennetts British Superbike Championship race win of the season in an intense second race at Brands Hatch, with the Hager PBM Ducati team celebrating their first victory of the year as championship leader Bradley Ray crashed out of contention.

Ray had taken the lead into Paddock Hill Bend for the first time from Redding, Christian Iddon and Danny Kent, with Kyle Ryde losing ground off the line.

The Raceways Yamaha rider was trying to make a break, but Redding was keeping him in his sights as Kent moved into third on the McAMS Racing Yamaha with a decisive move at Clearways on his AJN Steelstock Kawasaki rival.

Ray was holding the lead as Redding shadowed and looking for his opportunity to make a move, but the BMW Safety Car was deployed when MasterMac Honda’s Charlie Nesbitt crashed out at Hawthorns on lap five. Honda Racing UK’s Tommy Bridewell was another rider to also crash out, when his race ended at Clearways on lap three.

As the pack lined up ready for the restart, as the race resumed, Ray continued to fend off his Hager PBM Ducati rival until the ninth lap when he had a fast crash on the exit of Westfield.

Redding charged to the chequered flag to take his first race win in the championship since 2019 as Ryde had regrouped and fought to second on the Nitrous Competitions OMG Racing Yamaha. Kent completed the podium to secure his best finish of the season so far for McAMS Racing Yamaha, breaking the AJN Steelstock Kawasakis of Iddon and Max Cook.

Rory Skinner completed the top six for Cheshire Mouldings Ducati, ahead of Andrew Irwin, with Leon Haslam splitting the DAO Racing Honda pairing of Lee Jackson in eighth and Josh Brookes in tenth respectively.
