Danny Kent stormed to the top of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship Free Practice times at Thruxton this afternoon as the McAMS Racing Yamaha team topped the times by 0.217s from reigning champion Kyle Ryde and Nitrous Competitions Racing Yamaha.
Kent set the lap at the midpoint of the session, and despite Ryde moving up the order, he held the position until the chequered flag, whilst Billy McConnell surged into third place for C&L Fairburn Properties/Look Forward Racing Honda in the final ten minutes of the session.
Max Cook had a strong start to the weekend in fourth place with AJN Steelstock Kawasaki whilst Tommy Bridewell completed the top five, just 0.001s adrift of Cook as he returned following his heavy crash at Brands Hatch.
Christian Iddon on the second of the AJN Steelstock Kawasakis was holding sixth place ahead of championship leader Bradley Ray and DAO Racing Honda’s Josh Brookes. Leon Haslam and Charlie Nesbitt completed the top ten.
Glenn Irwin on his return from injury held 19th position on the timesheets, 1.850s adrift of Kent’s pace-setting time on his debut with Nitrous Competitions Racing Yamaha. He was passed fit to ride earlier in the day and will be reviewed again by the BSB Medical Team ahead of Free Practice 2.
