Kent delivers “lap of his life” to become sixth different race winner of 2025

10 August 2025

Danny Kent sensationally scored McAMS Racing Yamaha’s first race win of the 2025 Bennetts British Superbike Championship season in an intense eight-lap sprint to the chequered flag at Thruxton.

The race became an eight lap super sprint when the race was red flagged on lap five for a crash involving both Blaze Baker and Danny Webb.

When the race was red flagged, Kent had fought his way ahead of Christian Iddon and Kyle Ryde, with Max Cook and Bradley Ray also in close contention.

On the restart, Iddon instantly hit the front of the pack for AJN Steelstock Kawasaki, but Ryde was attacking from the start and he moved into the lead with Ray charging into second to push him back to third at Club on the opening lap.

Ryde was holding the edge, but Ray was determined and smashed the lap record set in 2019 as the battle raged at the front. Iddon moved back into second with a decisive move on the Raceways Yamaha rider.

Kent was in fourth and there was contact between him and Iddon into Club on the fourth lap but the pair remained in the battle. Two laps later and Ray took the lead at Cobb, whilst Kent had moved back into second with a move on Ryde on the brakes into Club.

Ray was holding the lead, but Kent and Ryde made a double attack on the championship leader into Cobb on the penultimate lap and the pair then held off a counter move from Ray. The Nitrous Competitions Racing Yamaha rider was pushing to add to his victory from yesterday, but Kent held on to the lead on the final lap with what he described as the “lap of his life” to take his first win of the season.

Iddon held fourth place, narrowly missing out on the podium ahead of his AJN Steelstock Kawasaki teammate Max Cook, with Andrew Irwin completing the top six for Honda Racing UK.

Scott Redding was the leading Ducati in seventh place for Hager PBM Ducati ahead of Leon Haslam and Rory Skinner, with Charlie Nesbitt completing the top ten.
