Glenn Irwin topped the opening Bennetts British Superbike Championship Free Practice times for the Hager PBM Ducati on a drying track at Donington Park this morning, holding off title rival Kyle Ryde by just 0.0.61s.
The times continued to tumble in the closing stages of the session as the track conditions improved and Irwin went to the top in the final minutes and set a time that put him ahead of his OMG GRILLA Yamaha Racing rival and Josh Brookes for the FHO Racing BMW Motorrad Team.
Brookes had been top of the times until the closing moments of the session with Leon Haslam and Storm Stacey completing the top five, edging out Christian Iddon and Championship leader Tommy Bridewell.
Luke Hedger had a strong session in eighth place ahead of Andrew Irwin and Peter Hickman who completed the top ten.
