Christian Iddon arrives at Donington Park this weekend holding third place in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship standings and aiming to come out fighting with the Oxford Products Racing Ducati team for more podium finishes.
Together Iddon and the team claimed a hat trick of podium finishes, in addition to their success in the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship with defending champion Ben Currie. Now as they head into round three this weekend on the Grand Prix circuit at Donington Park, Iddon has high hopes for a repeat performance of his podium success last time out at Oulton Park.
Iddon said: “So obviously Oulton Park was mega with three podiums. I actually left feeling disappointed though, especially in the last race. I felt like we had a bike that was more than capable of winning. It was more than capable of winning the other two, but in the last race, it was really dialled and I felt good.
“It all stemmed from a good test off the back of a positive Navarra, where we knew we’d made massive strides from last year. The Oulton Park test, I was never really looking super fast, but I had a really good rhythm and good pace so actually it wasn’t really stressing me at all that I didn’t have that one lap pace. I’ve felt like this before and I’ve known that it’s boded well for me, so I was pretty confident going into the race weekend.
“So to get three podiums is mega, it’s a really awesome thing for the team, and especially as Ben went one-two on the weekend too, so we got a trophy in every race which is pretty epic. Not many teams do two classes and then to be able to have a full house of trophies!
“To leave Oulton Park disappointed I guess is a good thing, it shows the form we’re in at the moment and to be third in the championship is really cool. We’re now looking at Donington Park which is typically a good track for myself and for Ducati. With the feeling that we’ve got at the moment, we want to carry on in the current vein of form and try to keep improving as we are.
“As a team we’re working really well, now that we have a better base to work on things are a lot more simple. That’s really helping and I’m looking forward to it. I am really enjoying riding my bike and I’m really enjoying the series this year.”
