Glenn Irwin arrives at Knockhill for the fourth round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship this weekend with a 13-point lead in the standings and the Hager PBM Ducati rider is bidding to replicate his race-winning form from last year.
Irwin was a double race winner at the Scottish circuit last year and after adding to his winning tally last time out at Donington Park, confidence is high ahead of this weekend’s three races.
Irwin said: “Donington Park was obviously a really special weekend claiming my first win on the GP circuit. The bike was so much more competitive on Sunday than it was on Friday and Saturday, so the step that we made pleases me more. It’s about the big picture and the step we made and what it will bring us throughout the whole season which is more important than perhaps grabbing a double victory on the Sunday.
“I took part in what was an absolutely fantastic race, learnt a lot in that race and believe I played the wrong tactic as such to what could have been perhaps a better result but it was nice to take part in such a special race and enjoyed the fight with the guys.
“For Knockhill obviously we go there on the back of great memories from last year with pole position and a double victory. The bike works well; we still are a little bit behind the eight ball in terms of developing the new items.
“We chose to avoid the test there, which was the right decision with the weather so Friday is going to be a lot of work ahead, to understand how to get the most out of our new items. We have been reverting back to the old stuff on race weekends just due to the time, I like a challenge and I am going to Knockhill in a good frame of mind.
“I have been training hard and I am looking forward to getting to Knockhill and fighting fit and ready to continue our success.”
