Quattro Group British Supersport & GP2/HEL Supersport Cup: Stapleford wins, points leader Currie crashes out

26 August 2024

Luke Stapleford doubled up to celebrate Feature Race honours at Cadwell Park as defending champion Ben Currie crashed out on the third lap.

Oxford Products Racing Ducati's Currie was fastest off the line as he launched into the lead ahead of Stapleford and Honda Racing UK’s Jack Kennedy, but on the second lap, Stapleford swept through to take the lead.

From there he was never headed, as Currie crashed on Lap Three and while Kennedy stuck close behind him for the full race, he was never able to get close enough to make  a pass, settling for second at the flag.

Third place went to ROKiT Haslam Racing’s Eugene McManus, who managed to hold off a charging TJ Toms to take the final podium spot, as Rhys Irwin rounded-out the top five.

In GP2, Owen Jenner became the first championship winner of the year with another class win over Keo Walker to lift the GP2 title, as Lucca Allen was third.

And in the Cup, Cameron Hall took victory ahead of Adon Davie as Ben Tolliday secured third.
