Kyle Ryde holds second in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship as the August Bank Holiday weekend beckons at Cadwell Park and the OMG GRILLA Yamaha Racing rider is ready to push for a repeat performance of his double podium finish last season.
Traditionally Ryde had always had a challenging time at the Lincolnshire circuit, but last season he excelled and ended his podium drought at Cadwell Park to claim two top three finishes. Now he is the closest rider in the standings to Bridewell at the top and he has his sights set on closing the gap this Bank Holiday weekend.
Ryde said: “Obviously the first task getting to Thruxton was to secure a podium, which I managed to do and thankfully it was a win! So, Friday and Saturday was amazing and Sunday was average. I just got unlucky in the shorter race; I made so many passes but every time I made a pass, I did something wrong and then got knocked back and you could see how easy it was for Ryan to get through. He rode well and did a get bit lucky too, but he got to the front and I think I could have done the same so I was a bit annoyed that I didn’t get two podiums. In the last race, I stuck to my pace, finished fourth and that was another very solid weekend. It was a great average of points, but we just need to get a few more wow weekends!
“Going into Cadwell Park, last year was brilliant and I had two podiums after it being one of my bogey tracks before. We know the bike will work well there, Superpole should be fun and I am looking forward to it. We have some time to test and the bike has been better this year than last year, so I am focused on being fit and ready and go from there!”
