Kyle Ryde continued to be the rider to beat in Bennetts British Superbike Championship pre-season testing as the OMG GRILLA Yamaha Racing rider topped the opening morning of the R&G Official Test at Circuito de Navarra by 0.111s from Danny Kent.
The Yamaha riders had initially been locking out the leading three positions with Ryde holding a minimal advantage over Kent and Ryan Vickers but in the closing stages, the reigning Champion Tommy Bridewell fired his Honda Racing UK Fireblade into third position.
Bridewell’s lap time eased Vickers back into fourth place on the second OMG GRILLA Yamaha Racing machine with Leon Haslam leading the BMW charge in fifth place for the ROKiT Haslam Racing BMW Motorrad team.
Glenn Irwin surged up to sixth place on the Hager PBM Ducati ahead of Peter Hickman on the leading FHO Racing BMW Motorrad Team M 1000 RR, just ahead of Cheshire Mouldings BMW Motorrad’s Rory Skinner.
Max Cook was the leading Completely Motorbikes Kawasaki in ninth place whilst Dean Harrison ended the session in tenth place despite a crash at turn one in the final 30 minutes, which caused a red flag
