29 September 2023

Kyle Ryde kicked off his home round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Donington Park by topping the times in the opening Free Practice session as the LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha rider held off standings leader Glenn Irwin by 0.372s.

Ryde had held the advantage in the final stages of the session, moving ahead of his BeerMonster Ducati rival and teammate Ryan Vickers who completed the top three.

Jason O'Halloran made it three Yamaha riders inside the top four, with home hero Leon Haslam completing the top five to lead the BMW charge.

Tommy Bridewell was sixth fastest on the second of the BeerMonster Ducatis, narrowly ahead of Peter Hickman and leading rookie Charlie Nesbitt. Josh Brookes and Lee Jackson completed the top ten.

Meanwhile the session was also the debut of two Hondas in the BSB Pathway specification, with Alex Olsen on the Cumins by Team IWR Honda in 18th place and Franco Bourne on the Marvel HCL Motorsport Honda in 20th.

The BSB Pathway specification has been designed to make entry to Bennetts BSB more accessible and is derived from a Superstock technical level, for teams looking to progress to the premier class. The bike is equipped with MoTeC ECU unit and wiring harness and other authorised technical modifications to make it closer to the Superbike specification.
