ABK Beer 0% BMW Motorrad F900 R Cup: Cooper crowned champ after perfect season

15 October 2023

Richard Cooper rounded out the perfect year by lifting the inaugural ABK Beer 0% BMW Motorrad F900 R Cup championship after a strong win over title rival Thomas Strudwick.

The FHO BMW Motorrad Racing rider added to his unbeaten run as he won the ninth and final race of the series’ opening season to take the championship.

After a season-long scrap, the final round came down to a battle between Cooper and Strudwick, who has kept him honest all year.

The pair fought hard in the opening laps, swapping the lead numerous times before Cooper took charge in the closing laps, building an unassailable lead of more than three seconds to take the race and the title win.

“I don’t lie when I say I enjoy riding this bike, I really do,” he said. “I came in with a bit of a target on my back, I’ve set the benchmark for the guys and I’ve enjoyed it.

“I think I’ve set the target for the guys to achieve next year – I’ll be watching closely to see what happens and maybe do a guest appearance if I’m asked!"

With Strudwick second, Mason Johnson took third with Christian Smith fourth and Nikki Coates – winner of this morning’s LCQ race – fifth.
