Rhys Irwin has taken pole in today’s qualifying at Brands Hatch – while recently-crowned champ Ben Currie was left languishing dow in 27th spot.
Irwin clocked a hot lap of 1min 28.582secs aboard the Astro-JJR Suzuki with just over a minute of the session to go, knocking BPE Yamaha’s Richard Cooper off the top spot.
Cooper finished 0.115secs adrift of Irwin, as Australia’s Tom Toparis was third quickest to seal a front row spot.
Irwin’s team-mate Jamie Perrin will head row two in fourth place, as Jamie van Sikkelerus starts from fifth.
Cameron Fraser found himself back on top in the GP2 category, qualifying 17th overall with Barry Burrell close behind and Harvey Claridge third.
