Rhys Irwin led the way as the British Supersport machines hit the track for first practice at a wet Brands Hatch this morning.
As newly-crowned champion Ben Currie opted to sit out of the session, Astro-JJR Suzuki’s Irwin clocked a best lap of 1min 40.039secs to go almost two seconds clear at the top the timesheets.
Irwin’s team-mate Jamie Perrin made a late charge to jump up to second position in the closing moments, knocking Casey O’Gorman down to third, after the young rookie made a strong start on the LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha.
Barry Burrell, back aboard the Kramer for the final round was fourth overall and leading GP2 rider by a country mile, as Dean Harrison secured the fifth fastest lap.
Jake Marsh was second fastest of the GP2 runners on the RD Racing Triumph, with Owen Mellor third.
