Quattro Group British Supersport and British GP2 Championships: Stapleford claims Sprint pole

Luke Stapleford grabbed pole position ahead of this afternoon’s Sprint race as he beat Rhys Irwin to the top spot by 0.219secs.

The Profile Road & Racing Performance rider leapfrogged Irwin in the closing minutes of qualifying as he found a hot lap of 1min 27.793secs, just before the session was red-flagged and a result called with just over a minute to go.

Points leader Tom Booth-Amos will round out the front row today in third position, as Ben Currie starts from fourth, with Australian countryman Tom Toparis fifth.

The GP2 battle continued to be close, with Cameron Fraser emerging the quickest, albeit only 0.001secs over series leader Joe Collier. Third in class was Harvey Claridge.
