R&G BRITISH TALENT CUP: Mounsey victorious in race one at Silverstone

04 August 2023

Sullivan Mounsey mastered the wet conditions in the opening R&G British Talent Cup race at the Monster Energy British Grand Prix at Silverstone, claiming the victory as standings leader Evan Belford crashed out in the closing stages.

Mounsey and Belford had broken the pack after an incredible battle at the front; however there was drama as Belford crashed out of the lead with four laps to go, which gave the Wilson Racing/Maddison Media rider the advantage to the chequered flag.

Julian Correa had also been in a fighting chance of a podium finish, but he too slid out of the action with five laps to go.

Amanuel Brinton and Lucas Brown were battling for the final podium places in the closing stages but Harley McCabe was also closing them in over the final laps. McCabe waited until the final lap, slicing through to take second before the run to the chequered flag ahead of Brown.

Brinton was forced to settle for fourth with Rhys Stephenson completing the top five as Filip Surowiak was edged into sixth place.
