Peter Hickman and the FHO Racing BMW Motorrad Team got their home round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship underway in fine style by topping the times in the Official Test session at Cadwell Park, leading the way by 0.079s.
Hickman had been building momentum and it wasn’t until the second half of the session that he was able to move ahead of Ryan Vickers on the LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha. The Yamaha rider had been the benchmark for most of the second half of the session, despite a small crash at the Chicane earlier in the evening.
Jason O'Halloran was third fastest for McAMS Yamaha as three teams completed the top three, but he only had a 0.002s edge over Kyle Ryde on the second LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha who was fourth on the timesheets.
Danny Buchan had been the early pacesetter in the early stages of the session on the SYNETIQ BMW before a technical issue sidelined him and he subsequently lost time. However he rejoined in the second half of the session and was about to end the evening by completing the top five.
Leon Haslam was sixth fastest for the ROKiT BMW Motorrad Team, ahead of the fastest Ducati, Glenn Irwin and Storm Stacey.
Lee Jackson led the Cheshire Mouldings Kawasaki riders in ninth place, whilst rookie Max Cook had two crashes during the evening test, including the final minute at the bottom of the Mountain.
Championship leader Tommy Bridewell completed the top ten for the BeerMonster Ducati team, just ahead of Josh Brookes, who was another rider to slide off during the session at Mansfield before rejoining the action.
