Christian Iddon admits he needs to get his Bennetts British Superbike Championship campaign underway this weekend at Oulton Park after a tough first round at Silverstone.
The Oxford Products Racing Ducati rider scored a single eleventh place at the season opener, but heading into the this weekend’s action, he is determined to kick start his campaign with a solid points haul at a circuit that has previously been strong for both the team and Iddon in the past.
Iddon said: “I really need to get my season started this weekend! Silverstone was almost a non-starter really, as we had a few issues in the free practices and then it carried on with a snowball effect and the weekend got more difficult as we went on.
“I had a technical in the first race and scored no points, got took out in the second one and then just struggled in the final encounter as we had missed out on so much running time in the races before. It is done and behind us, and now we look to Oulton Park.
“The Oxford Products Racing Ducati team have had a lot of success at Oulton Park and I have some great memories there too and we know the Ducati has had a lot of success around there. We didn’t do the recent test which is a little bit of a shame so we need to get out in FP1 and get to a good base quickly but that shouldn’t be too much of a problem. It is a circuit we ride more than most, so we just need to get going.
“It is a weekend I am looking forward to so that I can put the first round behind me and focus forwards. The first round was far from ideal and a bit of a disaster but from now on; we want to keep working forwards. It showed at Silverstone with three different race winners just how competitive BSB is that always helps with the points as nobody managed to get a big advantage there, and the new points system helps too. We move on, keep the head up, keep working hard and keep pushing on.”
