Lee Johnston took pole position in the Quattro Group British Supersport class, leading Ben Currie and Jack Kennedy. It was Perrin who was the provisional pole holder after the first opening laps, but Kyle Smith was soon topping the session.
Disaster would strike moments later though when the Dynavolt Triumph rider crashed out of contention. With 12 minutes to go, Currie topped the session but was demoted back to second shortly after as Johnston lapped even faster, just before a red flag brought the session to a premature close.
