Harley McCabe again celebrated a double victory in the FIM MiniGP UK Series at Silverstone ahead of this weekend’s British round of the MotoGP World Championship.
In the opening free practice session, Laken Payne was able to move to the top of the times in the closing minute, pushing Cadwell Park double race winner McCabe into second by 0.106s at the chequered flag.
In free practice 2, Williams was leading the way until he crashed at turn four with just over ten minutes remaining. Payne was then back at the top of the times, however with two minutes remaining McCabe was back leading the pack.
McCabe again claimed the pole position and in the opening race got off to a flying start ahead of Wilson, Payne and Monty Hiller.
On the eighth lap, Joel Greig crashed out of the podium fight, which elevated Payne up the order into second with Wilson in third. However, at half race distance, Wilson had forged ahead to move ahead of Payne.
Payne made a comeback in second, but on the penultimate lap Williams had moved into second ahead of Wilson and Payne in an incredible battle that went down to the wire.
McCabe had extended his advantage at the front to claim another victory, whilst Williams and Wilson completed the podium. Laken Payne and Freddie Bridewell completed the top five.
In race two, McCabe again broke the pack to make it a consecutive double win after Cadwell Park last weekend, taking the chequered flag by 11.637s.
The battle for the podium places was again between Wilson and Williams, with the pair trading blows throughout the race and on the final lap Wilson was back into second on the final lap.
Greig bounced back from his disappointment in race one by finishing in fourth place and Lewis Mullen completing the top five.
