Glenn Irwin arrives at Snetterton this weekend determined to edge closer to securing Title Fighter status with just six races remaining before the final fight begins for the 2021 Bennetts British Superbike Championship title.
Irwin was a race winner at the Norfolk circuit last season, securing the ‘Race of Aces’ title, but the Honda Racing rider is still in a precarious position in seventh place in the standings. He has a buffer of 23-points over ninth placed Bradley Ray, but with a maximum of 150 points up for grabs at Snetterton and Silverstone, the Title Fighters are far from decided.
Irwin said: “What we achieved at Donington Park and Cadwell Park, I think this weekend at Snetterton is only going to be better again. We’re a few weeks down the line with the shoulder and I don’t think it’s going to be an issue this weekend.
“We’re making progress everywhere; I’ve had a good few weeks training and the boys have been hard at it in the workshop with the Fireblade. The Showdown is coming closer and we’re in a good position, I’m aware of the gap behind me, but I am conscious of Danny [Buchan] ahead by 11 points, so we need to strengthen that position while scoring some podium points.”
