Wilford makes GP2 switch for 2019 season

Sam Wilford will return to the Dickies British Supersport Championship grid in 2019, making a switch to the GP2 class for the forthcoming season.

Wilford was in Valencia last weekend for the final round of the MotoGP World Championship to meet with the Gresini Racing team and take collection of the new bike ahead of starting their winter test programme. The Kent-based rider is now looking forward to the new challenge after a season that included podium finishes in the championship.

Wilford said: “It was great to be at Valencia last weekend to collect our bike for the 2019 British GP2 season and Team Gresini were brilliant all weekend.

“I am really excited for this new project and can’t wait to start learning a Grand Prix bike. We now need to finalise and add the final pieces to the puzzle and I think we will be a strong threat.”

Team Owner Ian Wilford commented: “I am really pleased to have successfully negotiated with Gresini Racing and bring across MotoGP technology to the British Championship.”
