Stacey celebrates first point-scoring race finish at Silverstone

Storm Stacey celebrated scoring his first Bennetts British Superbike Championship point in the second race at Silverstone, achieving the goal within eight races of his debut in the class with the GR Motosport team.

Stacey narrowly missed out on becoming the youngest ever point scorer, but the 17-year-old now has the target of a repeat performance at the next rounds of the season at Oulton Park in just under two weeks’ time.

Stacey said: “It has been a long time coming getting that first point! We have been working really hard so far this season so it feels good to get there in the end – especially before the second half of the season. In that race I had been building confidence and so because of that I hadn’t pushed so hard at the start and focused on being consistent, which meant we didn’t have any problem with the tyre at the end of the race.

“I didn’t even realise where I had finished if I am honest – I am just so focused on learning and improving, making sure I finish the races that I didn’t know until I came back into the garage. The team were clapping and I had no idea why! I feel like I just need to keep working the way we have been, keep building the confidence and see if we can do it all again at Silverstone.”
