Redding turns up the heat to head off Showdown rivals ahead of Datatag Qualifying

Be Wiser Ducati’s Scott Redding upped the pace in the final Bennetts British Superbike Championship free practice session at Assen this morning, slashing his lap time to dip into the 1m:35s barrier to post a blistering time 0.717s inside the lap record to hold off Glenn Irwin on the Tyco BMW.

Redding was able to maintain his position at the top of the times, but a last stint run from Glenn Irwin put him into second, pushing Title Fighter Tommy Bridewell back into third place in the closing stages of the final free practice session.

Luke Stapleford had been within the leading contenders through the session, setting the fourth fastest time for Buildbase Suzuki, narrowly edging out Xavi Forés for Honda Racing. The Spaniard had been running inside the top three earlier in the session before holding off Bradley Ray on the second of the Buildbase Suzukis.

Jason O'Halloran was again leading the McAMS Yamaha charge in seventh place ahead of Showdown contender Danny Buchan who dropped to eighth with some last minute improvements.

Championship leader Josh Brookes was ninth in the closing run as the Be Wiser Ducati rider clawed into the leading ten in the final minute ahead of Christian Iddon on the second of the Tyco BMWs.

Peter Hickman and Tarran Mackenzie were two Showdown contenders outside the top ten, taking the chequered flag in 14th and 15th respectively.
