Redding tops warm up as Brookes strikes back ahead of race one

Scott Redding began race day at Assen by topping the timesheets in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship warm up session, edging out his resurgent Be Wiser Ducati teammate Josh Brookes to hold the leading position ahead of the opening race of the Showdown.

Redding had maintained his position at the top of the times, but Brookes climbed to second, pushing Honda Racing’s Xavi Forés back into third place as he split the Title Fighters in warm up, with Tommy Bridewell posting the fourth fastest time for Oxford Racing Ducati.

Luke Stapleford though was just 0.001s adrift of Bridewell in fifth place ahead of his front row start for Buildbase Suzuki in the opening race, remaining ahead of his teammate Bradley Ray this morning.

Peter Hickman made big changes to move into seventh this morning as he returned to the top ten for with Smiths Racing BMW ahead of the first crucial race of the Showdown, holding off the leading McAMS Yamaha of Tarran Mackenzie.

Ryan Vickers had another strong session for the RAF Regular & Reserve Kawasaki team in ninth place, just ahead of Dan Linfoot who completed the top ten for Santander Salt TAG Yamaha.

Showdown Title Fighters Danny Buchan and Tarran Mackenzie ended warm up outside the top ten in 14th and 20th respectively.

Meanwhile the Tyco BMW team have a huge amount of work to do after Glenn Irwin had a big crash during warm up although he was unhurt.
