Hickman leads Brookes in final free practice dash ahead of Datatag Qualifying

Peter Hickman topped the final Bennetts British Superbike Championship free practice session at Oulton Park this morning as the Smiths Racing BMW rider moved ahead of Josh Brookes on his final flying lap before the chequered flag.

The session had started in damp conditions following overnight rain with the majority of the grid opting to sit out the early part. However the final flurry of activity came in the final ten minutes when Christian Iddon posting the fastest time for Tyco BMW.

Josh Brookes then headed out of pitlane on the Be Wiser Ducati, moving ahead of Iddon as the times began to tumble. The positions continued to change before the chequered flag with the championship leader looking like he would have the edge, but with Hickman just half a lap behind him with the improving conditions, he was able to set a lap 0.155s ahead.

Scott Redding was fourth fastest on the second of the Be Wiser Ducatis with Joe Francis completing the top five ahead of Ben Currie, who had been one of the first riders to leave pitlane at the start of the session.

Andrew Irwin was seventh fastest ahead of Jason O'Halloran with Luke Stapleford and Sam Coventry completing the top ten.
