Ben Currie claimed his second Sprint win in succession as he beat championship leader Luke Stapleford by almost five seconds this afternoon.
Currie got off the line well from pole as Stapleford, who lined up second, had a nightmare start and dropped back down to p10.
Honda Racing UK’s Jack Kennedy was also quick off the line and hit the front into Turn One, but Currie wasn’t having any of it and was back ahead by the end of the opening lap.
Currie and Kennedy soon pulled a gap at the front ahead of Jack Mahaffy and the pair stuck close together for the first seven laps as behind, Stapleford was charging back through the field.
On Lap Eight, Stapleford moved ahead of Mahaffy into third and seconds later Kennedy crashed out at the hairpin. Moments later, Mahaffy retired promoting fellow Aussie Ollie Bayliss to third.
Currie had a decent lead and was now coming up against backmarkers, although they didn’t affect his race too much and by Lap 17 he had more than four seconds between himself and Stapleford.
Dean Harrison on the second Honda Racing UK bike had been running fourth but dropped a couple of spots after a mistake at the hairpin, but he was able to regroup and get back up to fifth
There were no more changes of the top three as the final laps continued and Currie was able to enjoy his final couple of laps to bring his McAMS Yamaha over the line in first place, sealing his second win of the season.
Stapleford took second with Bayliss third, Oliver Barr fourth and Harrison fifth.
