As the 2025 BSB season moves into the concluding phase, series governing body the MCRCB and promoter/organiser MSVR are preparing the class structure for 2026.
The Pirelli National Sportbike Championship has been a positive and successful introduction to the BSB platform and whilst only in its second season recognized as the most popular racing category in terms of participants. With MSVR taking the lead globally on the introduction of the class, it has now been introduced in Germany and Italy this season and Spain will also organize a series from 2026. The Pirelli National Sportbike Championship with a performance equivalence of 95hp allows machine models from Aprilia, CF Moto, Kawasaki, Kove, Suzuki, Triumph and Yamaha to currently compete.
The Sportbike category is planned to become an FIM World Championship class in 2026 however according to the draft regulations there will be some differences with this to the technical platform currently in the UK, Germany and Italy.
However with the concept of a World Sportbike Championship, the UK National Championship will be retitled in 2026 to become the Pirelli British Sportbike Championship which is the policy of the MCRCB to align British Championships titles to their World Championship equivalents. There are no planned changes to the 2026 British Sportbike technical regulations other than regular evolution of the balance of performance controls.
Such is the popularity of the current National Sportbike class, it is clear that there is justification to feed and link into this class with a class of similar but less powerful machines and broaden the accessibility for riders.
This role is currently performed by the AJN Steelstock Kawasaki Superteen Championship solely utilizing the Kawasaki ZX4-RR.
For 2026 the Superteen Championship will be retitled as the Junior Sportbike National Championship and machine eligibility will be opened to any manufacturer model in the sector with a performance equivalence of 73hp established, this would include the current Kawasaki ZX-4RR, Kove 450RR Pro, Yamaha YZF-R7 amongst other potential models. Represented manufacturers are being encouraged to organize academy and manufacturer affinity programs to widen and encourage participation. A key aspect of this new open Junior Sportbike class is to develop a technical pathway so that an entry level machine can evolve into the higher specification British Sportbike class and therefore make the transition from classes more affordable.
National Junior Sportbike rider eligibility is planned to be from 14 – 23 years old, with an additional 2 years upper limit for female competitors.
