Rhys Irwin extended his championship lead in today’s Sprint race as he held off Jack Kennedy for victory.
The Gearlink Bike Performance 15 rider led the majority of the race, but won by just 0.030secs after a dramatic final lap.
Despite starting from pole, it was Irwin’s title rival Ben Currie who stormed into the lead at the green light from a second row start as Irwin slotted into second with defending champ Kennedy behind.
Currie led until the fourth lap when Irwin found a way past and the pair remained in the same position, separated by less than 0.200secs for the next few laps.
On Lap Seven, Kennedy found a way past Currie into second, but his Moto Rapido Ducati rival took the place back a lap later and the top three stayed the same all the way to the final lap.
Irwin had just 0.060 on Currie as they crossed the line for the penultimate time and soon Currie made a move to go P1. Irwin came straight back up the inside and sat him up briefly, allowing Kennedy to sneak through.
As they rounded Clearways, Kennedy pushed but couldn’t beat Irwin, settling for second as Currie was third. Eugene McManus was fourth with Luke Stapleford fifth.
In the Cup class, Josh Bannister emerged victorious as he beat Stephen Thomas.
