Rhys Irwin has extended his Supersport points lead at Thruxton after beating Eugene McManus to today’s Sprint win.
Irwin started the 12-lap scrap from pole, but it was former champion Ben Currie who got the best start and powered his Moto Rapido Racing Ducati into the lead.
But it took less than a lap for Irwin to squeeze his Gearlink Bike Performance 15 Suzuki past his rival and into the lead and from there, it was a relatively smooth ride to the flag.
Currie, running in second position, wasn’t able to stick with Irwin who built himself a comfortable lead of around a half a second and then on Lap Six, he found himself under pressure as Eugene McManus stormed through on his MMB Racing Ducati.
McManus settled into second and although he couldn’t catch Irwin, he was able to keep Currie at bay to cross the line second, 1.420 adrift of Irwin for his best result of the year, with Currie finishing third.
Defending champ Jack Kennedy was fourth on his Honda Racing UK machine as Macadam Triumph Racing’s Luke Stapleford was fifth.
Josh Bannister emerged victorious in the Cup class, as Joe Farragher took second and Stephan Thomas third.
