Former Moto2 Grand Prix World Champion Rabat set for Bennetts BSB debut joining TAG Honda

The Bennetts British Superbike Championship will feature a third World Champion at Thruxton this weekend (12/13/14 August) when former Moto2 Grand Prix World Champion Tito Rabat makes his debut in the series, joining the TAG Honda team.

The Moto2 title-winner brings a wealth of experience, having dominated with seven wins and an impressive tally of 14 podiums on his way to the crown in 2014. The Spaniard also competed in the MotoGP World Championship for five years before making the switch to the World Superbike Championship. The Barcelona-based contender has also most recently been a race winner in the Spanish Superbike Championship riding for the LaGlisse Honda team.

The Spaniard will make his first appearance with TAG Honda this weekend at Thruxton; the same circuit where fellow countryman Gregorio Lavilla made his championship debut in 2004, impressively claiming a podium in only his second race before celebrating title victory just a year later.

Rabat said: “I'm really excited about the opportunity that the team has given me to ride in the BSB race at Thruxton with TAG Honda.

“BSB is the best national championship in the world at the moment and to be able to take part in it in front of all the British fans who fill the circuits is an honour for me.

“I will try to do my best to make sure they enjoy the races this weekend, and although the level of the championship is very high, I will try to get a good result for Honda and the team. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at Thruxton!”

Team Manager Gary Winfield commented: “It is an honour to announce that Tito will be joining the TAG Honda team this weekend at Thruxton. As many will already know, Tito has enormous talent and is a dedicated and committed rider who only seeks podium finishes!

“The opportunity to welcome Tito to the series is a fantastic opportunity for both rider and team. Together we have aspirations for a successful debut and we look forward to working with Tito at Thruxton!”
