Mackenzie bidding to replicate McAMS Yamaha’s Brands Hatch winning form

McAMS Yamaha were victorious at Brands Hatch last summer in the hands of Josh Brookes when they celebrated a double victory and now Tarran Mackenzie is keen to make it a repeat performance for the team this weekend.

Having only once finished outside the top five in the seven races so far this season, Mackenzie sits third in the title chase, just seven points off standings leader Scott Redding, and is hoping for a return to the top step of the podium this weekend.

Brands Hatch proved to be a turning point for Mackenzie 12 months ago as he first showed his potential as a Bennetts BSB front-runner, looking set to clinch his debut podium before an unfortunate crash in the final stages of race one. Now a lot more comfortable with the bike, the 23-year-old is quietly confident about a strong weekend.

Mackenzie said: “It was good to get a test at Knockhill, the weather wasn't the best in the afternoon but we got a lot done in the morning. My feeling with the bike was a lot better than it was last year so that's positive. I'm really excited to get to Brands, it's a track I was strong at last year both in the middle and at the end of the year. With the improvements we've made to the bike this year, I'm looking forward to getting back there as the bike felt good last year and this year it should feel even better. The weather looks like it could be an issue but as long as it's consistent that'll be what it is. The aim is, as always, to be fighting for the podium."
