Buchan boosted by initial progress ahead of Donington Park

Danny Buchan heads into the third round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Donington Park feeling confident of further success after a consecutive run of three podiums from the opening four races with FS3-Racing Kawasaki.

Buchan’s hat trick of third place finishes launched him up to third in the standing ahead of the triple-header next weekend and with a return to the National circuit configuration thrown into the mix, the Essex contender is excited for the upcoming event.

Buchan said: “Obviously the season has gone as I would have planned it to if you had asked me how I would like it to go after the first two rounds! Honestly I was aiming for the top six in the races and then for regular podiums as it isn’t easy so to be coming up to round three with three podiums from four races has exceeded my initial expectations but now I just want more or even better that first win!

“Pre-season we knew we were in a good position but we never really went all out for an ultimate lap and so I knew we still had more in the tank. I think now we are in a position we need to stay there; it’s impossible to predict what will happen at Donington Park because it depends because some conditions work better for some riders, some tracks suit different riders better, but I am quite relaxed about it all.

“I feel like my motivation is a bit different this year, because I know what we achieved as a team last season and so we know what the aim is next to improve. We know that the bike is an improvement on last year and we can only get stronger if we keep working hard. We have been working a lot on the engine characteristics and with the new K-Tech suspension and even after the races at Oulton Park we knew we had some different things to test to improve again.

“We want to win races and to do that we need to keep moving and not just sit still. I am looking forward to getting to Donington Park and the National circuit as if I am honest the last sector is always the one I find the toughest there, so without the final section with the Melbourne Loop it should help! I want to be consistent and stay out of trouble – we know what we need to do and I definitely want to be fighting for podiums again next weekend.”

The opening round of the 2020 Bennetts British Superbike Championship takes place at Silverstone on April 10/11/12.
