Colin Wright
Team Manager
GSE Racing has enjoyed many achievements over the years and become the most successful team in BSB history thanks to a great team effort. We are very excited about the new association with Yamaha as this represents a new challenge for the team. I’m confident we can again play a major part in the 2009 Championship. I’m sure it will be the most exciting season ever!

Darrell Healey founded his GSE Racing team back in 1997 and it has since become one of the most successful teams in the BSB paddock, securing the title four times. The team rapidly grew, with future World Superbike Champions in their past line-up including Troy Bayliss, who took the title for the team back in 1999, and then Neil Hodgson who repeated the same feat the year after in 2000 to give the team back-to-back crowns.

The GSE Racing team then moved to the world stage, but returned to the domestic action in 2005 and were immediately back at the front of the field, with Gregorio Lavilla and Leon Haslam. Lavilla was able to stamp his authority on BSB and was crowned champion at the final round of the season at Brands Hatch, but he had strong opposition not only from team-mate Haslam, but also HM Plant Honda's Ryuichi Kiyonari.

The team returned in 2006, with the same rider line-up from the previous season and Lavilla ready to defend his crown. However, a nail-biting climax to the season at Brands Hatch went the way of their Honda rivals with Kiyonari taking the spoils from Haslam and Lavilla. The following season was another titanic battle between the teams, with Haslam finishing third and Lavilla fourth.

2008 was GSE Racing's year though, and with the new Ducati 1098 and former champion Shane 'Shakey' Byrne paired with former British Supersport champion Leon Camier, the team were a force to be reckoned with. Byrne fired an early warning to his rivals by winning the opening race of the year and that was a sign of things to come. 'Shakey' won an impressive ten races and only failed to finish on the podium three times to secure the title at the penultimate round at Silverstone. Team-mate Camier also had a strong debut season for the team, securing his maiden BSB race win at Snetterton and finishing on the podium eight times.

For 2009 GSE Racing have retained Camier for a second consecutive season and he will be joined by James Ellison, who impressed on his return to BSB last year on the Hydrex Bike Animal Honda. The team have also made the switch from Ducati to Yamaha during the winter break and with all-new machinery for 2009 many eyes will be focused on the Airwaves liveried Yamahas this year.
