SMT team owner Robin Croft has been involved in racing in some form for the past three decades, starting as a fan, then mechanic before moving up through the ranks to become a team owner.
The SMT squad made their debut in the British Superbike Championship in 2007, with Aaron Zanotti onboard a Yamaha. For 2008 the team came back with high hopes to build on their first season but the team had an unlucky start to the season with Adam Jenkinson ruled out through injury after the Thruxton round.
Tom Grant then stepped up to the ride but an unfortunate incident at Knockhill saw him forced to sit out the rest of the season. 2007 Australian Supersport champion Jason O'Halloran then completed the season for the team, making his debut at Croft. He took the team to their first ever top ten finishes at Silverstone with a best result of seventh.
For the 2009 season Croft retained the services of O'Halloran, whilst running Jenkinson in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship. However during the season Michael Rutter and Karl Harris also had outings on the SMT Honda, with Harris fighting for the lead at the final round of the season before crashing out heavily.
In 2010 the team signed multiple-Supermoto champion Christian Iddon, who previously rode for the team in both Superstock 1000 and 600 classes in a few races. Iddon made his debut in BSB with the team, but after a challenging start they separated and Chris Walker switched to the team and finished the second half of the season and took top ten finishes.
For 2011 Dan Linfoot joins the team and is eager to build on his previous experience in the Superbike class with Robin Croft's team.
